Flight and First Night

Twenty-Six Hours in Transit Pays Off - Luke Entry

overcast

For those of you with a yearning to know, we have landed in Amsterdam and found our hostel. Since arriving, I have had a spook about the Leidesplein and took in the scents, sounds and precipitations of this maze of neon & cobble while Dayna decided to fight fire with fire and sleep through the jetlag. It was a lovely afternoon, feeling fresh air on my skin after twenty-six hours of artificial climate.

The trip was reasonably exhausting, but there were no hitches. The service on the plane was good and the many meals brought out at seemingly random times to add to the surrealism were not horrible. The butter, as some may be interested to know, was lurpak. Easy to spread and tastes like butter. Lovely! Wonderfully there was a Gary Numan documentary available, which I watched with interest. It skipped over his gun madness and hair transplant failures and ended by mentioning Trent Reznor more than Gary but it was a good watch, all the same. News flash- Source Code is a bit silly! Still, tolerable on a plane (like microwaved hash browns are). Minor stops-over in Singapore and Dubai gave the DVT a kick in the pills and we both arrived unclotted and able to walk freely.

It's about 6:50am at the moment and our free breaky will be available in forty minutes. From there, Dayna and I will go on our first duo-spook around Amsterdam. We may drop in on Anne Frank- though she likes to hide, I'm told. Hopefully this spook will yield a photograph or two. So look out for that news!

My other plans for today are to go back to this Belgian bar I went to yesterday where the beer was delicious and the atmosphere unfrightening. The prices there seem fine considering it's all European beer, so it's still cheaper than Cookie.

I suppose the crux of this is entry is that we are arrived and safe. Also notable it that there is a guy beside me at this internet spot saying "I will sleep for one hour, I will sleep for one hour" over and over again. So far he has not gone to sleep at all, despite his promises.

Thank you for reading so far and I hope to reward you with some photos of your hosts getting up to touristy mischief shortly.
